Lighthouse Route

lighthouse route map

One of Nova Scotia's most popular tours is the Lighthouse Route. This route spans from Halifax to Yarmouth beginning near the junction of Highway 103 and Route 5.  Along with beach fun, there’s a world of coastal culture to discover. More than 150 majestic lighthouses are scattered along the coast. Visit one of these historic buildings that have kept seafarers safe for generations. The Lighthouse Route follows Nova Scotia’s South Shore, where the past is a part of everyday life. You’ll find it along quiet country roads where ox teams still haul lumber, and coastal villages where fishermen still row wooden dories out to sea. Explore towns like Liverpool, with its privateer legends, and Lunenburg, where a working blacksmith still plies his trade amidst the beautifully preserved buildings of the old town district. And yes, we have lighthouses, over twenty of them, from the dramatic beauty of the famous lighthouse at Peggy’s Cove to Yarmouth’s towering Cape Forchu light.  Some popular attractions along the way include:

  1. Peggy's Cove
  2. St. Margaret's Bay — The Old Annapolis Road Hiking Trail
  3. Hubbards — Bishop's Park and The Aspotogan Trail
  4. Blandford —The Blandford Whaling Station and Blandford Scenic Viewpoint
